HISTORY OF LOHARDAGA STATION AND TOY TRAIN
This rail route (Narrow Guage) was one of the oldest mode of communication and transportation from lohardaga to ranchi. The extension of this railway line from ranchi to lohardaga was begun in 1911 to link the remote Area to ranchi as well as calcutta.
Work of laying of tracks was completed in 1913.the first train of this route comprising two wooden carriage pulled by a steam engine was flagged off on October 6 1913. The basic requirement of this train was to transport bauxite from lohardaga area to factories via ranchi by British government.
Meanwhile after 80 years sucussessfull running the requirement of broad gauge was sought by the people of this area. The project was envisaged in 1996. And it is being completed into two phases. In first phase lohardaga to Barki chapi extension of railway track around 14 km And in second phase Badki chapi to Tori railway station. First phase was completed in 2005 and second phase was in 2016. Distance between jharkhand capital to India's capital reduces by 3 to 4 hours.and this the the main line to connect people of Lohardaga to ranchi. And there are 13 railway stations in between Ranchi to Tori and Lohardaga is a nodal point for both Ranchi and Tori. Distance between lohardaga to Tori is 44 km and Lohardga to Ranchi is 66 km. Lohardaga Train has been upgraded from normal passenger to MEMU (Mainline electric multiple unit) in mar 3 2018.
